LONDON — Mobile adult distributor Vertigo looks west to the US to partner with producers, studios and owners to feed the burgeoning demand for X-rated content on high speed wireless devices.
Formed by telecommunications experts Dean Butler and Paul Boden, Vertigo reaches mobile phone users in the UK with its Mpex, or Mobile Portal Exchange, System. The company is expanding into Spain, Germany, South Africa and Australia with the technology. Adult studio Matrix Content is signed onto Vertigo’s delivery service, as well as Harmony Films, Eurosin and gay producer Load XXX.
“We are very interested in offering mobile phone content distribution to American producers in our markets via our new Mpex System,” Butler said. “Studios will have access to a whole new revenue stream within the European market. We are perfectly placed to grow revenues through our billing systems — that are service provider independent — the wireless access portals we’ve developed and the worldwide demand for new and innovative mobile-based entertainment. We offer a turnkey solution that delivers promotion, billing and the subsequent traffic and sales. They join Mpex, we get them eyeballs and that all-important additional revenue stream.”

Content owners signed to the service are promoted through multiple channels. These include mobile banners, WAP push messaging, mobile search and traditional print media. In addition, there are opportunities to advertise in-network on Vodafone, and Hutchinson Whampoa’s 3 for greater market penetration. Content is hosted and delivered from within the Mpex System and appears as a series of “shops.” These shops gain customers through Vertigo’s direct marketing activity in addition to their Promotion Partner Network.
“Vertigo continues to demonstrate preeminence within the mobile adult sector, generating high monthly spend and exhibiting strong customer retention levels,” CC Media Live’s Ashley Christie said. CC Media Live offers a live adult video 121 mobile service which is also promoted on the Mpex System.
Butler said he and other representatives from Vertigo will be in Berlin during the Venus 12th International Erotic Exhibition to meet American content owners.
