Next Friday, November 21st, ABC News viewers will get to see Ashley Dupre’s first television interview, which she conducted with Diane Sawyer for the “20/20” broadcast.
The interview, part of a “20/20” series on prostitution, will focus exclusively on Ashley’s story, and not on the scandal involving her and former politician of the Democratic Party Eliot Spitzer. On March 10 this year, The New York Times revealed that Spitzer, who was at that time governor of New York, was a client for a prostitution service called Emperors Club VIP, which had been under federal investigation for a while.
Moreover, media reports stated that the politician had met for over two hours with a $1,000-an-hour call girl named Ashley Alexandra Dupre, adding that Spitzer had been frequenting about 8 prostitutes from the agency over six months, paying more than $15,000 for their services.
Two days after the magazine published these findings, Eliot Spitzer announced he would be resigning his position as Governor, his stepping down having come into effect on March 17, 2008.
The media got wind of the upcoming interview with Ashley Dupre last Friday, when Gawker website gave out the news, also revealing that the callgirl had been paid a consulting fee by the ABC TV network to do the interview.
Since the Spitzer scandal broke out, Dupre has only accepted to make a few short comments on the Governor’s resignation for the New York Times and was also featured in some exclusive photos in the New York Post.
