Porn Valley- The adult industry’s current HIV crisis was the topic of Selena Silver’s talk show on KSEX, www.ksexradio.com Wednesday evening. Selena, www.selenasilver.com, said she had been on the phone with directors and female performers all day getting feedback and canceling some of her own shoots as a result.
Selena, for her listeners, then explained the circumstances differentiating first and second generation performers as it pertained to Darren James, the male performer diagnosed HIV positive. “There’s a lot of misinformation about the HIV virus,” Silver went on to say, claiming that she had been aware of some big name girls who were quitting the business as a result. “There’s panic. Agents are on the phone canceling and re-scheduling.”
According to some of the girls they talked to, a few of the agents have been awesome in handling their responsibilities, Kent Silver reported.
“They have canceled the girls shoots. They have made them go take their tests and they’re not booking them right now.” Though he wouldn’t name names, Silver also claimed that there was one agency attempting to “force” their girls to go to shoots. “Which I think is out of line,” he added. Silver also reported that some of the well known girls from that agency “allegedly” quit the business as a result while others are contemplating similar measures.
Overall, the Silvers were very positive in their assessment and analysis of the AIM system for testing performers. “But we’re not going to say that AIM is perfect. There’s probably a lot they need to do better.” Selena, however, made the point that were it not for AIM, she wouldn’t be in the industry.
Kent Silver posited an open question as to how James may have been infected. Selena noted that there’s an HIV epidemic in Brazil.
“It is illegal to shoot without condoms but he was down there shooting without condoms. I believe the statement was there was also some other unrelated high risk behavior.”
Kent Silver added by saying that since Brazil has such a high HIV rate, the government requires that if you’re shooting porn, there has to be condoms.
“That’s a great law and yet still some American companies go there and shoot without.” On the other hand, Silver noted that companies like Evil Angel do comply with the statute.
“But this company [TT Boy’s company], and a performer from there paid the price.”
Kent Silver openly questioned whether fans or the marketplace would support condom-driven porn. On another issue, Selena reported that she heard VCA was only shooting girl-girl scenes and that all other shoots were being postponed.
One fan called in to say that he would not buy or rent porn with condoms. “It’s no fun watching it.” Asked if a government mandate were circulated dictating the use of condoms, he said that he wouldn’t rent any more.Male performer Kris Slater called to say that he was going to take some time off. Slater said he knew a lot of people who felt the same way.
“I’m going to let everything calm down and let AIM collect the lists of other people who may be quarantined for awhile and re-tested,” Slater went on to say. “I think it’s the best thing to do in this matter. You could make things worse if everybody just keeps going on with everything. It puts a damper on the whole industry, however if we can just hold off now for a little bit, it’ll be better in the long run for everybody.”
Kylie Ireland called in to confirm that VCA was shooting Thursday but only a girl-girl scene. For her part, Ireland said she was not doing any boy-girl scenes although she was scheduled to work in the girl-girl scene. “I have a cold so I’m trying to wiggle my way out completely on that. But I would probably do it because I know I’m working with Julie Night,” she said. “If it was someone I didn’t know I’d totally cancel on it.”
