Every year at this time we’re treated to media tales about the film A Christmas Story [written by the late Jean Shepherd based on his childhood reminiscences] and how, by word-of-mouth, it’s become a beloved American cult classic.
And, yeah, references are always made to the kid who, on a triple dog dare, gets his tongue stuck to a flag pole.
The kid was noted child actor Scotty Schwartz whose other big Hollywood feature was The Toy starring Richard Pryor in which Schwartz gets shot out of a cannon.
Years later Schwartz revealed that for A Christmas Story a suction tube within the flagpole was used to simulate the freezing of his tongue to the pole. And there was another film, less talked about, in which Schwartz had to get another body part stiff. The mainstream media doesn’t generally talk about this one, however.
You can argue about your porn-mainstream crossovers all you want, but Scott Schwartz is one of the true notable examples of going in opposite directions.
That’s because Schwartz, 12 years ago, wound up in a porn movie with Juli Ashton titled Scotty’s X-Rated Adventure from Wicked Pictures. In a E! Truly Hollywood story, Schwartz said he gave it the ol’ college try but it didn’t work out.
Prior to the shoot, Schwartz laughed to say that he had to be sick to attempt it, but wanted to make Page One of USA Today.
Off camera, though, Schwartz was a demon with the porn ladies and, at one time, also served as a talent manager and got into some major feuds with Max Hardcore because of that. Schwartz first began hanging around the porn business after meeting Ron Jeremy at Hollywood’s famous Comedy Store in 1987.
“Ron and I hit it off right away,” Scotty later told me. “”We were like two guys from New York talking about gefilte fish.”
Jeremy, in turn, brought Schwartz into the inner porn circle, showing him the secret handshake. And Schwartz, wielding a libido the size of the New York Yankees payroll, began firing away, nailing every industry girl he could get his hands on.
Schwartz also roadied for the likes of Selena Steel, Jeanna Fine, Hyapatia Lee, Amber Lynn, Porsche Lynn, Kelly O’Dell, Lois Ayres and Lynn LeMay with whom he had a major fling. So, obviously, Schwartz’ duties extended far beyond go-fer situations involving gum and cigarettes.
Like his movie namesake The Toy, LeMay was presented to Schwartz as a fuck present for his 21st birthday in which he supposedly banged her in broad daylight on Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard.
LeMay was asked about their relationship in a KSEX interview last year. LeMay said Schwartz had asked her to marry him. Not once but on three different occasions.
“Our anniversary would have been two days ago,” said LeMay in the February interview. Asked why she didn’t marry him, LeMay said Schwartz never showed up for anything.
“The first time, he got down on his knees at the XRCO awards,” she said.
“And he took the ring off his pinkie and asked me to marry him. I took it and put it in my pocket and said sure. And he didn’t show up for our next date. I promptly got up on the stage of the FOXE awards and called him out- made him get up on the stage, kiss my shoe and say he was sorry.”
When he wasn’t dodging dates, public fucking amused Schwartz and was a major turn-on for him. He also had a stormy live-in relationship with porno star Alex Parks. Schwartz met Parks on the set of Debbie Does Dallas IV where he was working as a “towel boy.”
Soon after they could be found at their favorite haunt, Magic Mountain amusement park, toweling one another down, putting on shocking amorous exhibition for the multitudes.
The leggy Parks had other ideas, however, where the affair was going. She began a clandestine cross-country fling with a guy in New York and covered her frequent absences by telling Schwartz she was doing video shoots in San Francisco.
One time Parks claimed she was overseas, calling Schwartz from New York, but pretending she was in Italy. A quirk of fate exposed Parks’ ruse but not before she made off with Schwartz’ prized Jackie Robinson rookie year trading card which wound up in the possession of her New York lover.
Schwartz never retrieved his card, and Parks, subsequently, dropped out of sight. Undaunted, Schwartz picked up the pieces and began a tempestuous relationship with another porn star, Sabrina Dawn.
[Dawn and her mother Delilah may have been porn’s first working mother-daughter combo.]
This, along with Schwartz’ other porn affairs was pockmarked with peccadilloes. One of the more notable ones was a quickie screw with the big-titted Tamara Lee in the parking lot of the Santa Monica Pier.
Dawn had accompanied Schwartz to that year’s XRCO Awards Show. But the frigid ocean tempers combined with alcohol created long lines to the restrooms. It was during one of those go-potty moments when Dawn excused herself, that the puckish Schwartz connected in a ten-minute Kismet session with Lee.
“That was a mutual star fuck,” Schwartz later told me. “I wanted her, She wanted me.”
And Sabrina Dawn never knew the wiser. Or maybe she did.
Schwartz was interviewed another time, many years later, by Tyler Faith on KSEX and said he did a lot of signing this time of the year in conjunction with A Christmas Story.
Asked about that scene, Schwartz said it was filmed in 25 degree below zero conditions with a wind chill. “We shot it in a little town called St. Catherine’s Ontario between Toronto and Buffalo- in February,” Schwartz recalled. Other films he’s done include Kidco.
“Where kids sold horse manure,” he explained. Schwartz also did a low budget film with Frank Stallone called Fear. “It was an okay movie,” he recalled. But Schwartz said he had more fun making a picture called The Garbage Man than just about any other project.
“I played a gay bodybuilder- they wanted me to gain like 30 pounds and wear an open shirted leotard-thing. It was really funny but it never got a U.S. release.” Schwartz was finally able to get a copy through an editor that found him online.
Schwartz was also in the DVD version of Pauly Shore is Dead. Another film titled Pryor Offenses had a Showtime airing in 2004. It featured Eddie Griffin playing Richard Pryor who later died in December, 2005. Schwartz in his interview with Faith said he and Pryor became friendly during their four months of shooting The Toy.
“He was the kind of person that attached himself to other people,” said Schwartz. “If he liked you, he always liked you.”
Faith mentioned that she’d known Schwartz from when she was with Pleasure Productions. “Way back in the day.”
Schwartz told Tyler that if he had done Scotty’s X-Rated Adventure with her, he’d probably have gotten a hard on.
