Porn Valley – THE BILLION DOLLAR U.S. porn industry may take a self-imposed two-month sabbatical after sex star Darren James and a scene partner tested positive for HIV earlier this week.
The London Sun reports that James is the first porn star to test positive for HIV in four years. It was also confirmed yesterday that one of about a dozen women James had sex with in films also tested HIV-positive.
At least 45 men and women were under voluntary quarantine because they had sex with the HIV-positive performers or their sex partners.
The hiatus would allow all performers to get tested and get their results.
As porn stars are frequently tested for HIV, James has had a test every three weeks since 1998.
Both the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation and industry trade mag, Adult Video News, have called for the two-month stoppage.
But AIM chief Sharon Mitchell, a former XXX-star, doubted whether the entire industry would go along with the request.
“It would be nice to have the two months, but we’re dealing with pornography,” she said. “We’re in an industry making a living by peddling flesh.”
Jill Kelly, another ex-XXXer who now produces films, said, “Anyone who continues to shoot at this point are complete idiots.”
