SALEM, NY [post star.com]- — A Hebron man was arrested recently on a charge he publicly displayed pornographic material when using a computer outside a library in Salem, police said.
Washington County Sheriff Roger Leclaire said his office is trying to determine whether the man, Ralph E. Holmes, 65, of county Route 30, publicly viewed pornography at other times while outside Proudfit Hall in a vehicle.
Holmes was arrested after the Sheriff’s Office got a complaint Dec. 23 from someone who said that a man could be seen viewing pornography from the sidewalk outside, Leclaire said.
Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Sullivan responded and found Holmes watching pornographic movies on a laptop computer he owned, police said. He was accessing the movies via the Internet through the library’s wireless Internet system, Leclaire said.
The computer was seized and sent to the State Police laboratory for analysis, police said.
The charge of public display of pornographic material is a misdemeanor. Holmes was released pending prosecution in Salem Town Court.
