What is with setting people on fire at strip clubs? You’ll recall the incident in Tarzana, California several weeks ago in which a dancer was set ablaze. Now a verdict has been rendered in this case:
WASHINGTON [www.news8.net]- – The man convicted of dousing a strip club manager with gasoline and setting him on fire has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Vasile Graure, a Romanian citizen, was convicted Nov. 20, 2008, of three counts of assault with intent to kill while armed, four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon; aggravated assault while armed; mayhem while armed; and arson.
The victim, Vladimir Djordjevic, remains hospitalized 16 months after the Nov. 3, 2007, incident. He suffered second- and third- degree burns to 90 percent of his body.
At Graure’s sentencing Wednesday, the judge told the victim’s family he would have given Graure the electric chair, had he been able to, because of all the suffering the victim and the family has gone through.
According to prosecutors, Graure was seeking retribution against the Good Guys strip club after being kicked out. Graure walked to a gas station where he bought a gas can, gasoline and a lighter, and then returned to the club, prosecutors said. Graure then doused the front of the club — and Djordjevic, who tried to stop him — with gasoline and ignited it, prosecutors said.
Graure fled the scene; police tracked him to a motel, where he was treating himself for severe burns, investigators said.
