Juliana Jolene being from Minnesota born and raised [she’s 5’10”, 36DD-27-36], I tell her this story about a woman I ran into who tried living there awhile but hated it. The woman with the story told me it was too clannish and shut off to outsiders. Jolene, a country girl herself and far from being a snob, expects it’s probably more like that in the big cities like Minneapolis.
Then the big city came a callin’ in her own right, and Jolene started out as a house dancer. And she’s now been in the adult industry about 2 ½ years. While she was dancing, Jolene kept a profile on Glamour Models and was contacted by Girlz Inc out of Florida to see if she was interested in doing porn.
“They asked if I was interested in trying it out. I thought about it a little while and said you know what, it’s not going to hurt to try it. I decided to go there and have been doing it ever since. I haven’t had a bad experience.”
Before she got into the rascally business of porn, Jolene had been an assistant manager in an apartment complex. Which earns her a compliment because no apartment managers I’ve ever dealt with look like her.
I wondered if she got a lot of psycho people complaining about their toilets.
“Not too much complaining but I had to deal with a lot of [housing] programs that were out there,” she explains.
“It was a lot more complicated than just dealing with people complaining.”
Jolene got that job immediately out of school and did it for about three years with some moonlight bartending thrown in.
Had she never got into porn, Jolene imagines that she would have remained in the property management line of work.
“At the time I really enjoyed it and enjoyed the different people and helping people out.”
But Jolene also describes how she always wanted to try the whole dancing scene, not just for the money but to explore her sexuality.
“And I had a little boy and I wanted to give him everything in the world,” she continues.
“What I was doing at the time wasn’t giving me that. The first time I tried dancing I chickened out. Then after I turned 21, my whole entire attitude towards those things changed. I thought if they like me, they’ll look at me and pay me. If they don’t, oh well. I got up there and danced my little heart away. And the first night I walked away with $1200.”
“And the girls were sitting there telling me you wouldn’t believe what we were making a few years ago. I’m thinking don’t even tell me because I’m already kicking my butt about not starting at 18.”
Now 27, Jolene says it’s been an experience. And when things began slowing down in Minnesota is when she began travelling, going to Vegas and attending the Sturgis bike rally.
“I was all over and tried different clubs,” Jolene says.
“So by the time I got contacted by Girlz Inc, things had really slowed down in the dancing business and I thought it’s not going to hurt to try this.”
Jolene says she wasn’t nervous or scared her first time in front of a camera.
“It went pretty smooth. The people knew it was my first scene and they all treated me with respect.”
While working in Florida,, Jolene stayed at the Girlz Inc house and from past experience, I know it could be a regular drama club.
“It kind of was,” she laughs.
“But it was also nice that I didn’t know what was going on. I stayed out of it. I’m the type of person where I don’t start drama and I don’t deal with drama. I walk the other way. I’m not the type of person to talk about anyone else or deal with other people talking about other people. It doesn’t pay because it’ll come back to haunt and bite you in the butt somewhere along the line.”
Jolene commutes to Porn Valley. She feature dances on the average one week a month and tries to work here two weeks out of every other month.
“I need to keep myself in the movie part of it so the people I know won’t forget about me,” she states.
“As long as I keep myself in the loop people will remember who I am. I got it to the point where people will call me if they know I’m going to be in the area, or they’ll call me if something big is coming up and I’ll be out here for that. And I just got that attitude where I click with a lot of people. I can definitely hold a conversation and companies have told me I’m easy to work with, that I’m not high maintenance, high demand, anything like that.”
By the same token, Jolene also gets a lot of word of mouth recommendations because of her easy going nature. She also credits the fact that she began networking at the AEE shows.
“I went out there and said I’m going to make sure people know my name before by the time I leave. I hung out with Brandon Iron and a few of his friends. And I met a lot of people through Evil Angel. I made sure that I handed out as many cards as I could and I called afterwards to thank them for their time so that would refresh them on who I was.”
Of her favorite people to work for, Jolene calls Stan from Girlfriends Films the best.
“They’re a very good company to work with and he definitely makes his films fun, laid back and exciting,” says Jolene.
“He is definitely my favorite to work with right now. Everything is always a different place, a different site, a different theme; it’s never he same thing you’re going to do.”
Jolene also enjoys the aspects of red carpet celebrity and being to different parties.
“I love meeting people in general. It’s something I’m glad I’m doing.”
Had she known all of this when she were younger, Jolene says she definitely would have looked into it.
“It’s just some of the things you hear on TV shies you away and makes you thing gross-types of things. But after being in it and getting to know it, it’s what were people talking about? They look at the one percent of bad things that have happened and don’t look at any of the good things. You never hear about any of the good things or what people have experienced or where they are in their life now.”
In reflection, Jolene describes herself as a skinny little girl who grew up on a farm.
“A skinny little girl? You usually imagine farm girls that are healthy and corn fed.”
“I was this skinny little girl,” laughs Jolene. “I had chicken legs. I was 5’10” when I was 12. I was one of the tallest girls in my elementary class.”
“When you’re looking down at the boys in your class it’s a little intimidating, but everyone wanted to get tall like me. And you have fun finding pants.”
She had her first date at the age of 13, which was a school dance. Then Jolene begin filling out by the time she was 14 or 15 and two weeks before she turned 16 she had her first sexual experience.
“It was pretty much I’ll try it out,” she recalls
“It was more a matter of curiosity where I felt a little left out after listening to my friends. Me and this guy, we’d been friends for awhile so we said, what the hell, let’s lose our virginity. Neither one of us touched anybody, so the guy got lucky. It wasn’t like anything people were trying to tell me. It didn’t change me and people were telling me it would. I didn’t feel any different. It was fun, interesting and learning all the aspects of exactly what to do and trying all the different positions you’ve seen on your parents’ porn. [Jolene is a big fan of doggie].
“I love that whole thing- grab my hips, pull my hair, take control,” she says.
Asked if she could see the signs of a recession in the clubs that she dances at, Jolene says a little bit.
“Maybe in the smaller towns I’ll see it there,” she says. “In the high-end clubs you don’t see it as much.”
Curiously, Jolene wound up signing with David Samms PR because Samms, she notes is from Minnesota as well which helps.
“At first I wasn’t sure I wanted to go that route, then I was at Porn Star Karaoke and he was there with one of his clients. I sat down and talked with him a little bit, and I called him the next day. I said let’s try it out and see if he can help me keep my name out there when I’m not in town. And since he’s from Minnesota I have to give that to him! He’s a big sweetheart and he’s helped me with a few things.”
