CHICAGO (CBS) ― from www.cbs2chicago.com- A gentlemen’s club was scheduled to open Friday evening on the city’s Far South Side, despite complaints by some residents in nearby neighborhoods.
The Factory, at 12054 S. Doty Ave. near Lake Calumet, will feature fully nude dancers, and said earlier this week that they plan to hire 60 permanent staffers and 100 part-time dancers. John Burys, owner of the 20,000 square-foot facility, said he prefers not to use the expression “strip club” to define his establishment, saying that it caters to “that clientele of gentlemen.”
The owners say they chose the spot they did because it’s in an isolated semi-industrial area and there’s plenty of free advertising; 150,000 cars pass by the spot on the Bishop Ford Expressway every day.
But that hasn’t stopped the club from ruffling its neighbors’ feathers. Earlier this week, CBS 2’s Derrick Blakley reported on several Far South Side ministers from the Roseland and Pullman neighborhoods, who said while their area can use jobs, a strip club is not the stimulus package it needs.
Ald. Anthony Beale (9th) agrees.
“I told the gentleman I would fight him every step of the way,” Ald. Beale said earlier this week. “And he basically looked me in the face and said, ‘We’re gonna let the judge decide.'”
The Factory will not be serving liquor, as under city ordinances, clubs that feature completely nude dancers may not serve alcohol.
