From www.thetechherald.com- The continuing evolution of Mozilla Corporation’s popular Internet browser has taken yet another notable step forward today following the release of the Beta 4 edition of Firefox version 3.5.
Arriving as a 7.1MB download for PC systems carrying Microsoft’s Windows operating system, the latest browser offering from open-source proponent Mozilla includes an array of contributory tweaks and is particularly notable for being the first Firefox release to shift progression away from the usual ‘3.1’ label.
In amongst the update’s accompanying list of changes and enhancements, Firefox fans willing to put Beta 4 through its paces can expect to find improved user tools for controlling private data, which includes the introduction of a Private Browsing Mode (a la Internet Explorer’s InPrivate browsing mode and Chrome’s Incognito option).
Beta 4 also delivers support for new Web technologies, including HTML5 and elements, downloadable fonts and other new CSS properties, JavaScript query selectors, HTML5 offline data storage for applications, and also SVG transforms.
Available in 70 languages, the new release promises to improve performance and stability through Gecko layout engine enhancements along with the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine and the ability to provide Location Aware Browsing utilising Web standards for geolocation, support for JSON, and Web worker threads.
“Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 is the sixth development milestone and fourth beta release of Firefox 3.5, the next version of the Firefox web browser,” outlined Mozilla Corp. in an official announcement.
“While this release is considered to be stable, it is intended for developers and members of our testing community to use for early evaluation and feedback,” it advised. “Users of the latest released version of Firefox should not expect all of their add-ons to work properly with this beta.”
