From The Sun-Sentinel: You’d have to look hard to find it in my weekly mailing from our friends at the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau. But way down, way-way down near the bottom of the lengthy document, under all manner of brightly packaged news items (“GMCVB appoints Colombia in-market representatives”!), below a tout for the recent International Electric Machines & Drives Conference at the downtown Hilton, down there is where the GMCVB acknowledges that this weekend’s Exxxotica Expo is expected to generate $600,000 for local businesses in three days and draw 5,000 people. Hey, that’s a Marlins Get your Marlins Tickets now! crowd if they keep playing like they have.
You’d think we’d have more community pride in again being able to woo such a major convention (“The largest adult event on the East Coast!” the Web site blares) from other major cities.
The adult film and novelties arena is big business, mostly thanks to a substrata of men who obsess over its stars much as others do baseball. They’ve memorized Tera Patrick’s stats and can recount her best plays in excrutiating detail. And, like Manny Ramirez, the idea that she may be enhanced does not mean she’s not a talent for the ages.
Exxxotica runs today through Sunday at the Miami Beach Convention Center, but its effects will be felt at after-parties from Miami-Dade to Broward.
Among the best attended will be Patrick’s event tonight at Liv at the Fontainebleau (4441 Collins) with DJ Vice, natch, spinning. Admission: $20 for women, $30 for guys. Info: livnightclub.com, 305-674-4680.
Also Sunny Leone”s party Saturday night at Pangaea at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood. She’ll sign, there’ll be DVD giveaways, and DJ Vertigo will spin. Info: panagea-lounge.com, 954-581-5454.
On Saturday night, Luther Campbell’s 2 Live Crew will perform at the convention center, no doubt with extended versions of Me So Horny and As Nasty As They Wanna Be.
Another oddball event will be “The Search for South Florida’s Hottest MILF,” hosted by the onetime Long Island Lolita, Amy Fisher. It’s on Sunday (Mother’s Day, of course) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Grand prize is a trip for two to Jamaica.
General admission tickets are $35 and $43, $65 to 70 for VIP. General three-day pass is $85, $150 for three days of VIP. You must be at least 18 to enter, 21 for VIP access.
There is a no-nudity rule (hilarious for chat room wags who point out that the convention is taking place less than a mile from a beach where clothing is traditionally very optional).
