From www.dailymail.co.uk- As the eldest son, he should be in line to inherit a 14,000-acre farming estate, formal parkland and gardens, not to mention a 200-room baroque house which has been in the family for three centuries.
But Jasper Orlando Slingsby Duncombe, 41, who became the 7th Baron Feversham on the death of his entrepreneurial father six weeks ago, will not be taking the helm of historic Duncombe Park in North Yorkshire.
Last week, more than 400 family and friends packed All Saints’ Church, Helmsley, to hear tributes to the flamboyant aristocrat. But it was his second son, Jake, 37, who gave the moving memorial address and his younger son, Patrick, 27, providing a reading – along with the peer’s old friend, actress Dame Maggie Smith.
Jake’s address mentioned his father’s ‘strong sense of duty’, his loyalty to his friends and his ‘respect for tradition’.
But the talk of the congregation was not about Feversham’s achievements, but about his sadness over his eldest son.
Instead of following his father, who spent two decades restoring Duncombe to glory after it had been used as a girls’ school, Gordonstoun-educated Jasper pursued a rather different trajectory. He became one of the nation’s leading pornographers, a career path which came after he was given a three-year jail sentence in 1993 for attempted robbery while high on cocaine.
Now, despite the late Lord Feversham’s love of tradition, management of the stately pile falls not to Jasper but to Jake, who lives in a wing at Duncombe with his stepmother, Pauline.
Jasper had, for years, not been on speaking terms with his Etoneducated father, a former governor of Leeds Polytechnic and expresident of the Yorkshire Arts Association. He did not approve of Jasper’s exotic lifestyle.
The new Lord Feversham’s company, Relish XXX, supplies blue films, with titles such as To The Manor Porn, to NHS sperm banks.
Although probate has not yet been granted on his father’s estate, according to friends, the house and its land have been left in trust to Jake.
