The Heimlich maneuver now has a new definition.
Ft. Myers- from www.news-press.com – A Lee County Sheriff’s Office corporal has been fired after his porn-viewing activities at work slowed agency computers.
Cpl. Scott Heimlich, 48, who worked in corrections, was fired July 23.
According to an Internal Affairs report released Friday, Heimlich violated the agency’s policy on viewing pornographic material and conduct unbecoming of an officer.
The report said a check of Heimlich’s computer found 857 pornographic images on his hard drive, 619 of which were time-stamped July 9. The other 238 pictures could not be dated but were similar to the other images.
The pictures were discovered when the sheriff’s technical support team noticed the second week of July that servers began running unusually slow.
“They started checking the Internet proxy server and located a user (who) was accessing inappropriate video on the Internet,” Sgt. Michael Stanforth reported.
They traced the login to Heimlich and seized his computer for a search.
Heimlich, who works in the Lee County Jail core facility, admitted he viewed the pictures while on duty.
“Heimlich stated it was stupid for him to do it, and it would not happen again,” Stanforth reported. “Heimlich also advised he had done it twice before about two months ago. Heimlich advised when he accessed the Web sites, no one else was in the office.”
Stanforth described Heimlich as honest and apologetic.
Heimlich does not have a listed phone number and could not be reached for comment Friday. He has been with the agency since July 1998, and was paid an annual salary of $48,910.
His duties included maintaining databases, reports and schedules for the inmate day program.
Sheriff Mike Scott released this statement about the termination:
“It is always regrettable to part company with members on unfavorable terms; however, our standards remain high and our tolerance for wrongdoing low.”
