Kansas law on adult stores won’t be enforced

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – Attorney General Steve Six says a Kansas law restricting adult store signs won’t be enforced.

Six announced Tuesday that he’s abandoned the state’s defense of the law in a federal lawsuit. The statute was supposed to take effect July 1, but was challenged by the Lion’s Den Adult Superstore, along Interstate 70 in Abilene.

The law said adult store signs within a mile of a highway were limited to 40 square feet. Also, they could show only the name, location, phone number and operating hours.

In June, U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson issued an order temporarily blocking the law’s enforcement.

Six spokeswoman Ashley Anstaett said the judge’s order suggested that the state would lose the case once it went to trial.
