Police Warn Starlets of Phony ‘Producer’

from www.boston.com – Police say a Massachusetts man has been posing as a movie producer and preying on aspiring actresses and models, offering high-paying roles in exchange for sex and hosting fake auditions for seductive scenes.

At least three women have told police since January that they had met a man they found on legitimate casting websites, who first introduced himself as a producer and then made sexual advances.

Boston Police Lieutenant Detective Charles Wilson said investigators have identified a suspect. No charges have been filed. Wilson is asking that other women who were victimized come forward and speak with police.

“He’s very convincing, and of course it’s all a fraud,’’ Wilson said. “He has them read a script that’s explicit, and then he has them act it out.’’

The Globe has learned that the suspect is from Massachusetts, with addresses in Wakefield and Lynnfield, who operates under the banner My 3 Sons Productions.

The Globe is withholding the man’s identity because he has not been charged.

But the man said in an interview last night that he has done nothing wrong, that he was working on a legitimate movie script, and that the women who complained are simply looking to create “a train wreck’’ of his life. The man confirmed that investigators have spoken to him, but said he was simply told to leave the women alone.

“I had conversations with probably 20 different actors, male and female,’’ the man said. “They read different scripts, different scenes. They asked what I thought of it.

“There were a couple of people who tried to cause trouble with me, but there was nothing sexual.’’

Wilson said at a press conference earlier yesterday that the suspect would reach out to aspiring actresses on legitimate websites offering job opportunities on a comedy film, with contracts for as much as $150,000.

No assaults occurred, police said.

The latest incident occurred within the last week. A woman responding to an Internet advertisement agreed to meet with the man, who was claiming to be a producer, at a hotel near Faneuil Hall for an audition. During the meeting, the man tried to persuade the woman to perform sexual acts on him in return for a guaranteed part in the film. The woman turned down the request.

In August, another woman told police she had an audition with a man posing as a producer at the same hotel. He again made sexual advances, the she said.

And in January, a woman met a man she had encountered on the Internet while searching for an acting position at a downtown Boston restaurant. The man was able to persuade her to act out a seductive scene in an elevator.

Industry websites describe the scam in more detail, with the man telling actresses that Ben Stiller will star in the film, and going as far as setting up a production schedule. No shooting ever took place.

The man confirmed that he is the target of the allegations and said he had written a legitimate script he called, “She’s Out There,’’ about a man who gets divorced after 20 years and is embarking on online dating.

When asked if he was a legitimate movie producer, the man would only note that director Quentin Tarantino started his career with little funding.

“I am not preying on anyone,’’ the man said. “What did I do that was illegal? What did I do?’’
