(WEST HILLS, CA) — A recent press release mailed out to the masses by Jenna Jameson’s publicity department over at Club Jenna calls her the first porn star to have a billboard with her image placed in Times Square — but after printing the hyperbole, media outlets across the globe found themselves scratching their head wondering, “What about Ginger Lynn?”
Ginger Lynn [ http://www.gingerlynn.com ] was the first adult video actress to be featured on a billboard in Times Square for her movie, “Girls on Fire,” in 1986. The billboard was a promotional tool for the VCX movie, and Ginger’s life-sized likeness gracing Times Square made worldwide headlines. Incidentally, Jenna Jameson’s billboard is just outside the Times Square area and as of yet, Ginger Lynn remains the only pornstress to have the prestigious honor of being placed there.
This information led to a series of other findings that revealed Ginger Lynn was there before Jenna:
– Before there was Club Jenna, there was Club Ginger, established in 1986, first with the movie “Club Ginger” and then with the fan club of the same name.
– Before there was the recently released “I Dream of Jenna,” a send-up of the popular television series, there was the similarly titled parody, “I Dream of Ginger.”
– And the first porn star to have an “E! True Hollywood Story?” Ginger thinks not! According to E! Entertainment Television, Ginger Lynn’s “E! True Hollywood Story” is ranked at #4 on their highest rated episodes of all-time.
Is the new crowned princess of porn perhaps following in the legendary Queen’s footsteps? Or is it that since Jameson signed her contract with Vivid Video, the powers that be at the adult video production company have taken everything Ginger once made successful and remarketed it for Jenna? Lynn was the first contract girl in the history of adult when she signed with Vivid back in 1984, a move that revolutionized the adult industry forever.
“I think Jenna Jameson is one of the most beautiful women in the world and I have always admired how she has marketed herself,” said Lynn in a statement made over the weekend. “I have a great deal of respect for her. Ultimately, imitation is the greatest form of flattery; I just wish she’d give credit where credit is due.”
Ginger Lynn has also gone more mainstream and has been more successful at it than nearly anyone before her. Under the name Ginger Lynn Allen, she began work in low-budget independent films in the late ’80s that led that guest starring roles on “NYPD Blue” and “Silk Stockings,” as well as major supporting roles in mainstream motion pictures like “Bound and Gagged: A Love Story,” “Young Guns II,” and “The Independent.”
Lynn recently wrapped on a supporting role in the indie film thriller, “Kisses and Carons,” and began shooting last Friday for a recurring role on the forthcoming FOX series, “Skin.” Further details about the series will be revealed later this week.
