EL DORADO, Kan. from www.kansascity.com – The suspect in the brutal slaying of a Kansas college student is expected to take the stand in his own defense.

Twenty-six-year-old Israel Mireles is charged with capital murder, rape and aggravated sodomy in the November 2007 death of Emily Sander.

Mireles is scheduled to testify Friday before the case goes to the jury.

The disappearance of the 18-year-old Butler Community College made national headlines after it was revealed that she led a secret life as an Internet pornography model who went by the name Zoey Zane.

Authorities found a knife with Sander’s blood on it at a Baxter Springs house his girlfriend was staying in.
