And to think the guy had a promising career as a Tom Byron stunt double.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –from www.wesh.com – One of three Volusia County beach safety employees informed this week they would be fired because of a sex scandal, now faces criminal charges.
Beach Patrol Capt. Jecoa Simmons, 37, was arrested this morning and charged with solicitation to commit perjury and tampering with a witness.
Simmons is accused of having sex with a minor while on the job.
In years past, Simmons has often talked to WESH 2 about beach issues. Simmons could not be reached for commentThursday about his arrest.
Beach Patrol is an agency of county government and those leaders are pretty fed up with the scandal.
“This kind of activity is not acceptable, its particularly not acceptable for people who carry a law enforcement credential,” Volusia County spokesperson Dave Byron said.
Prosecutors said Thursday’s charges stem from his efforts to get a potential witness to lie to investigators who were monitoring phone calls.
Investigators said Simmons texted a teen 362 times, then had sex with her while on duty.
The girl said Simmons invited her to the Main Street tower for sex.
Another woman recently came forward admitting that she also had sex with Simmons.
Similar allegations saw former officer Bobby Tameris arrested last year and then again Wednesday on new charges.
Another full-time lifeguard is also accused and a part-time guard is facing allegations that he tried to cover for the men.
All have been, or will be, fired. The criminal case against them is active.
The sex investigation has cost Beach Patrol jobs that will likely not be filled. Like every other county department, they have to cut their budget. The projected loss to the department’s budget is $1.5 million.
