Ponzi Schemer Kenneth Starr’s Stripper Wife May Have to Go Back to Stripping

A stripper or a porn star marries a well-heeled crook. That scenario is a cliche by now.

from www.nypost.com – Jailed money manager Kenneth Starr’s wife may be forced back to working the pole.

A Securities and Exchange Commission lawyer said yesterday that federal regulators will oppose any attempt to unfreeze Starr’s allegedly ill-gotten assets to support his ex-stripper wife, Diane Passage, and her 12-year-old son, Jordan.

“Ms. Passage would not be the first spouse of a fraudster to be harmed by their spouse, but unfortunately, our priority is the investors,” SEC lawyer Todd Brody said.

The couple got more bad news late yesterday when prosecutors handed up a 23-count indictment against Starr that has nearly doubled — to $59 million — the amount he’s charged with swindling from his well-heeled clients. [Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and others.]

The Manhattan federal court filing also added four victims to the list of celebrities and millionaires taken in by his alleged Ponzi scheme.

The four are not identified by name, but the indictment says they are a “film producer and businessman” in his late 70s, a “playwright and screenwriter” in his 80s, “the ex-wife of a wealthy investor and businessman,” and an actress in her 80s.

The Daily Beast Web site identified the playwright as Neil Simon and the actress as Lauren Bacall.

Simon lost a $8.7 million and Starr allegedly paid him back $4 million — using other investors’ money, the site said.

It added that Starr defrauded or attempted to defraud Bacall out of at least $100,000.

“In the less than two weeks since Kenneth Starr’s arrest, this investigation has maintained its velocity,” said Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara, noting the probe is ongoing. Starr’s court-appointed lawyer didn’t immediately return a call for comment.

Starr’s wife, a former Scores dancer, came to court yesterday wearing black patent-leather high heels, a black dress and a pink Vivienne Westwood cardigan.

She declined to comment on the SEC’s stance regarding her living expenses, but her interim attorney — high-powered Washington defense lawyer Abbe Lowell — said, “Ms. Passage is going to do what she has to do to support herself and her son.”

Starr and Passage are being sued by the SEC in connection with the alleged Ponzi scheme, whose victims included actress Uma Thurman and heiress Rachel “Bunny” Mellon.
