JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Missouri’s adult entertainment industry has gone to court over a new state law regulating sexually oriented businesses.

A lawsuit filed Tuesday in Cole County Circuit Court contends the measure was approved improperly by Missouri legislators and violates free speech rights.

The legislation is scheduled to take effect Aug. 28 and applies to strip clubs, adult video and book stores, seminude model studios and other related businesses.

At sexually oriented businesses, the law would ban full nudity, alcohol consumption, admission of minors and touching between seminude employees and customers.

The law also requires the stores and clubs to close before midnight and prevents new adult businesses from opening near homes or schools.
