from www.thebookseller.com – Palgrave Macmillan has bought the rights to a book on the sex lives of presidents and politicians co-written by the infamous founder and publisher of Hustler magazine Larry Flynt.
Commissioning editor Alessandra Bastagli bought world rights for an undisclosed sum from agent Andrew Stuart.
One Nation Under Sex: How the Private Lives of Presidents and First Ladies Shaped America by Larry Flynt and David Eisenbach is due to be published in Spring 2011. The title “promises to reveal how the sexual escapades of political figures shaped the sexual culture of the time and what it tells us about American morality”, the publisher said.
Airie Stuart, senior vice president and publisher, added the book would “be both titillating and smart”.
She said: “We are undoubtedly excited about publishing Larry Flynt and David Eisenbach’s One Nation Under Sex in the Spring. No team is better suited to explore the evolution of American sexual culture, and how defining presidential ‘romances’ have illustrated and shaped our mores.”
Flynt is the head of Larry Flynt Publications, which mainly produces sexually graphic videos and magazines. He was also the subject of the 1996 film ‘The People vs Larry Flynt’, which starred Woody Harrelson and Courtney Love, and in which Flynt had a cameo role.
