Adult Store Arousing Ire In Haltom City, Texas

HALTOM CITY from www.cbs11tv.com ― A newly opened adult novelty shop in Haltom City is creating quite the controversy. Even though the chain already has stores in Fort Worth and four states, Haltom City residents don’t like where they placed this one. Most of all, residents are offended by the store’s choice of window displays.

The newest Christal’s sits at one of the busiest intersections in Haltom City – North Beach and Western Center boulevard. Christal’s obviously wants everyone to notice its window display. But parents may
want to cover their kids eyes.

“I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all,” Cheri Morgan said. Her five-year-old son, Hunter, is just learning about football. She doesn’t want him learning what’s on the posters at Christal’s which managers describe as a picture of a body massager.

“I find it offensive. I think there’s sexually oriented items. I don’t think they should be displayed I’m worried about the children,” Morgan said.

Christal’s is located in Haltom City, but Fort Worth mothers, who’ve driven by, are offended too. April DeAlva said, “How am I going to explain to her what that is,” DeAlva said, referring to the poster.

She also worries about the neighborhood. “When there’s so many children what kind of people is that going to bring in?” she wondered.

Some mothers don’t care if the store stays, they just want the posters to go. Rachel Evan said, “I know they slide under the law saying they can be used on the back and the neck. But I don’t want to see a four foot poster of one while I’m sitting at a red light.”

Christal’s is glad people noticed its posters because it just opened the Haltom City store last Saturday. Regional Manager, Jeremie Dubar, said, “It’s something to catch people’s attention, yes. Absolutely! It’s called advertising.”

Haltom city hasn’t received this many complaint calls in years but says the store hasn’t violated any laws. City Manager, Thomas Muir, said, “I can’t promise a change but I can promise we’ll work with them.”

Even though Christal’s has sex toys and videos, it isn’t considered a sexually oriented business because those items make up less than 35 percent of its total merchandise.

Christal’s meets with the city next week.
