AIM Turns Over HIV Case to LA County Tuesday; Waited for Results from Western Blot Technique

from www.nbclosangeles.com – The final report on an HIV-positive porn actor is now in the hands of Los Angeles county officials. Dr. Jonathan Fielding, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health , tells NBCLA his office received the report Tuesday.

A San Fernando Valley health clinic that caters to the porn industry compiled the report. Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, or AIM, conducted the test on the unidentified porn actor.

AIM is required by law to turn over final lab test results and other information about the HIV-positive actor within seven days of the initial test.

That took place on Oct. 9, but AIM waited 10 days to comply. Karen Tynan, an attorney for AIM, said the clinic was waiting for the results of a test that uses the Western Blot technique, before submitting the report to the county. Dr. Fielding says the results from a simpler test known as PCR-DNA would have been sufficient.

Dr. Fielding said the clinic provides contact information for the individual, but the county keeps his identification strictly confidential. Public health officials will verify the clinic took appropriate actions, including contacting partners the HIV-positive actor may have come into contact with, and providing counseling. “What’s important is to prevent further infection,” said Dr. Fielding.

On Thursday, more than half a dozen pornographers, including Vivid Entertainment and Wicked Pictures, voluntarily halted production while AIM worked to identify and notify actors that may have had contact with the HIV-positive actor. It’s not clear when production will resume.

from www.xbiz.com — AIM attorney Jeffrey Douglas is refuting AIDS Healthcare Foundation claims that say AIM has missed its legal deadline to report the HIV case to Los Angeles County public health officials.

“AIM Healthcare Foundation has complied with all reporting requirements, including those pertaining to prompt, timely reporting to Los Angeles County Health, HIV Epidemiology Program,” Douglas said.

“Since no one outside of that program can lawfully possess any information regarding reporting, critics who make claims about late reporting are either continuing to make up false information, knowingly and deliberately, or are receiving false information from personnel within Los Angeles County Department of Health HIV Epidemiology.”

“Journalists should inquire of those persons making these defamatory, false claims to provide the source of the confidential information they are purportedly relying upon,” Douglas added.
