Linda Lovelace led a very strange life. In 1972, she starred in “Deep Throat,” widely considered the first porno to make it to the mainstream. (Little known fact: it apparently got a good review in The New York Times.)
But years later, she said that her ex-husband, Chuck Traynor, coerced her into doing the movie—that he was abusive and had even held a gun to her head. She went on to denounce the entire porn industry. Linda’s story would totally make a fascinating movie—which I guess is why, as we told you the other day, there are currently two in the works. The first is “Inferno,” which recently replaced star Lindsay Lohan with Malin Ackerman. The second is as-of-now untitled, but supposedly Kate Hudson and James Franco are in talks to star in it as Linda and Chuck.
Hollywood has often mined the porn industry—particularly during the ‘70s and early ‘80s—for material. In honor of these two Linda Lovelace movies, let’s take a look back at some mainstream movies and TV shows about the porn industry.

> In “Boogie Nights,” Mark Wahlberg stars as a kid determined to become a porn star in the ‘70s. This Paul Thomas Anderson epic follows Dirk Diggler into the ‘80s, when things fall apart, and gives you a special surprise at the end.
> Justin Long plays a sleazy gay porn producer in “Zack and Miri Make A Porno.” In this Kevin Smith movie, Seth Rogen and his female roommate (Elizabeth Banks) decide to make homemade porn spoofs so they can pay their bills.
> Whatever happened to Val Kilmer? That guy was good. In 2003, he starred in “Wonderland,” the story of porn star John Holmes, who performed under the (classy) name Johnny Wadd and was involved in four murders at the Wonderland Hotel in 1981.
> Trey Parker and Matt Stone of “South Park” fame aren’t know for high-brow entertainment. But “Orgazmo,” about a missionary who becomes a porn star with a superhero shtick, is certainly a cut below.
> Showtime’s “Family Business” was a reality series that ran for four seasons in the mid-2000s. The show followed Adam Glasser, a porn star and director who works under the name Seymore Butts. But Adam isn’t working alone—his mom and cousin are also a part of the company which makes and distributes his films.
> Another classic of this genre—“The People Versus Larry Flynt.” This flick follows the court case against Hustler publisher Larry Flynt, played by Woody Harrelson. This is also the movie that showed us Courtney Love can actually act.
> Anna Faris is totally charming in “The House Bunny,” a comedy about an aging Playmate who joins a sorority as their house mother.
> Yes, you can believe your eyes—that is Charlie Sheen with a comb-over in the movie “Rated X.” He and Emilio Estevez play brothers and porn producers Jim and Artie Mitchell.
> In “Finding Bliss,” Leelee Sobieski takes a job as an editor at porn studio so that she can use their sets and equipment to make her own film. And then, duh, since it’s a romantic comedy, she falls in love.
> Mark Wahlberg just can’t get enough of the ‘70s porn industry. The “Entourage” producer currently has a TV series in the works for HBO, which will be written by James Frey. “We’re going to make a sprawling epic about the porn business in LA,” said Frey. “We’re going to tell the type of stories no one else has told before, and go places no one has gone before.” Sounds like must-see TV to me.
