from www.startribune.com – A 26-year-old Shakopee woman has been charged with performing sex acts on a 16-year-old student she supervised as a teacher’s aide at Shakopee Junior High School.

Michelle R. Chlan appeared in Dakota County District Court on Wednesday to face charges that she performed oral sex on the student three times between June 2009 and July 2010. She’s charged with three counts of third-degree sexual abuse.

According to a criminal complaint, Shakopee police notified Burnsville police last week about the incidents, which allegedly occurred in Burnsville and involved a student Chlan had met in class.

The boy reported that Chlan had given him a ride home once because he couldn’t reach his mother, and Chlan gave him her phone number in case he needed a ride in the future. He began calling her for rides to his friends’ houses, a festival in Mankato and a mall.

Sometime in the summer of 2009, the student told police, Chlan performed oral sex on him behind a department store in Burnsville, just off Hwy. 42, and two more times outside a different Burnsville business. Chlan initially denied the allegations but later told police she had performed oral sex on the boy at least three times, the complaint says.

Chlan remains employed at Shakopee Junior High, though she’s been placed on leave until the conclusion of the investigation, said Shakopee Schools Superintendent Jon McBroom. He said the school is investigating internally, as well as waiting to see what the courts determine, before making any further decisions regarding her employment.

District Judge Kevin Mark set bail at $25,000 with conditions, including staying away from the victim, or $100,000 without conditions.

Chlan is currently serving a year of probation in Hennepin County for a misdemeanor theft from a Wal-Mart store in Bloomington. She pleaded guilty to that charge in November. Chlan’s next court appearance is set for June 6.
