An Arlington High School teacher was in jail for a second time on Friday, when a student came forward to tell authorities he’d been having sex with the teacher since early 2011. This makes three students who have claimed to have sexual relationships with the same teacher.

28-year-old Stacy Hopkins was arrested on May 5, for two counts of aggravated statutory rape by an authority figure and two counts of exploitation of a minor. She was released on a $10,000 bond.

She was then arrested again on Friday, May 20, when a third victim came forward. She was released on Saturday, May 21 on a $25,000 bond.

Hopkins is due in court Monday to face three total charges of aggravated statutory rape by an authority figure.

According to the Arlington High School website, Hopkins is an assistant girls basketball coach.

The first victims were discovered when Hopkins’ ex-boyfriend told school authorities about her inappropriate text messages, which included nude pictures, according to a police affidavit.

The same affidavit states Hopkins confessed to having sex with these boys.

All three victims were either 16 or 17 at the time of the sexual encounters.

The latest victim to come forward told police all these encounters took place at Hopkins’ Cordova home in the 6900 block of Parkbrook Lane.

Neighbor Don Foster, who lives two doors over, said she seemed like a nice person though he didn’t know her well.

“Well obviously it’s surprising, alarming. Yeah, it’s unbelievable how that could happen,” he said.

Foster said Hopkins had been living at that address with her boyfriend for one or two years. In the last few months, he said he no longer saw the boyfriend at the house.

Near Arlington High School, parents are concerned not just over the local teacher’s charges, but that several teachers across the county had been charged with similar crimes recently.

“It’s been around a lot in the news, teachers all around. It makes you wonder is this something new that’s going on, or something that just because the world’s such a smaller place now, with media and everything like that, that we’re becoming much more aware of it. Yeah, kind of shocked though,” said Tommy Myers.

Myers’ children are still too young for high school, but he’s still concerned how social media is affecting the relationship between teachers and students.

“Teachers are taking a little bit more liberty nowadays with students. Social media, the way it is, teachers are interfacing with students outside of the confines of the classroom,” he said.

Myers said that all parents can do is make sure they maintain an open relationship with their children, where kids feel safe telling their parents if something is wrong.

He said that children should “know that even though these are teachers, they’re folks you’re supposed to respect, certain things shouldn’t be happening. And they should be open enough to talk about it.”
