Naperville, Illinois – Jenna Jameson acts in adult films. Ted Bulthaup wishes she’d act like an adult.

Bulthaup is owner and chief executive officer of Hollywood Palms Cinema in Naperville and Hollywood Boulevard Cinema in Woodridge.

He recently filed a lawsuit seeking more than $50,000 in damages from Jameson. She allegedly reneged on an agreement to make paid personal appearances at his theaters earlier this year, deciding it would be “more fun” to spend part of that weekend attending a celebrity blogger’s birthday party in California, according to the litigation.

The Sun was unable to reach Jameson for comment Thursday night. Internet searches revealed no listing for her under her stage name Jenna Jameson or her real name Jenna Marie Massoli in her hometown of Huntington Beach, Calif.

The seven-page lawsuit, filed in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton, accuses Jameson of “breach of her written contract to attend events scheduled for March 24-26.”

Both theaters had scheduled several “special screenings” of the 2008 film “Zombie Strippers!” in which Jameson starred, the suit read in part. Jameson was to autograph photographs of herself and 200 copies of her book, “How To Make Love Like A Porn Star,” and interact with her fans and pose for photos with them, according to the suit.

Bulthaup’s company “sold hundreds of advance tickets” to the screenings; paid Jameson, her agent and personal assistant to travel to the Naperville-Woodridge area; and “invested thousands of dollars in advertising (and) dedicated hundreds of employee hours to making the weekend’s events a success,” the suit indicated. Her appearances would have generated “tens of thousands of dollars in revenue” for the cinemas and Jameson, according to the litigation.

Jameson’s agent, the day before their arrival in Chicago, sent “a vague doctor’s note” to Bulthaup, in which Jameson maintained she had had a “medical emergency” and would be unable to attend the screenings, the suit declared. Bulthaup later learned that “on the very evening (Jameson) was supposed to be at Hollywood’s theaters, she attended ‘Perez’s Blue Ball,’” a birthday party for blogger Perez Hilton, the suit alleged.

Bulthaup, in a telephone interview Thursday, said Hilton’s website featured photographs of Jameson attending his party. The photos were still posted there Thursday night.

“We just — from a variety of sources and resources — determined she was not sick, and indeed planned on going to this party, and tried to get out of her contract” using illness as an excuse, Bulthaup said.

“She looked extremely happy, and was partying the night away in her blue dress,” Bulthaup said of the photos of Jameson on Hilton’s website.

Bulthaup said advance tickets to the movie screenings had “completely sold out.” He would not say how many patrons had to be turned away, saying only it affected “lots and lots of people.”

He also declined to say how much money had been lost because of Jameson’s no-show, although an affidavit of damages filed with the suit indicated his loss “does exceed $50,000.”

Bulthaup said Jameson was served with a copy of the lawsuit May 24 at her home in Huntington Beach, Calif., but only “after extensive and extended efforts (by Jameson) at not answering the door” and accepting the papers from a process server.

Jameson also “does not have legal counsel, to the best of our knowledge,” Bulthaup said. She gave Bulthaup the name of a man she claimed was her lawyer, “and when we tracked him down and contacted him … he said he only met her once at a birthday party” and did not represent her, Bulthaup said.

“The biggest problem I’ve got is the disappointed fans, the people who took time out of their lives to come to our theaters,” Bulthaup said. Many travel from across the country to attend events featuring celebrity appearances, he said.

“We have more than sufficient evidence to prove that there was no medical emergency” or other contractually acceptable excuse for Jameson’s absence at his theaters, Bulthaup said.

A preliminary hearing on the matter is set for Aug. 15.
