Paolo Banana Unpeeled

Porn Valley- Freelance director Paolo Banana was a guest of Teagan Presley and Guy Capo Tuesday night on KSEX, www.ksexradio.com. In making the intros on their show Around the Block, Capo noted that Banana also has a lot of experience outside of the porn business and has “been around the block.” Banana explained that he started as a runner for a studio. “I worked my way into being in the editing room, the control room- camera, lighting, everything.” Banana, who got into adult in 1999, said he’ll take mainstream projects as he can get them. Capo mused that it’s comedy to him that Banana could be cutting Teagan Presley’s pop shot back-to-back with someone’s wedding video. “That amuses the shit out of me. I love that.”

Capo gave Banana a compare and contrast question, wondering how the business was when he first got in. Banana observed that he was coming back and forth to this country, working mostly in Brazil. “In Brazil one of the dominant companies is Buttman’s company and they changed the way things were done in Brazil. Now it’s more predominantly gonzo than feature-like stuff.” Banana said he was fortunate to work for some of the people that worked for the company which landed him an opportunity to come to the states.

“It used to be about the beauty of the women, but it got a little different,” he went on to say, of the belief that the male performers take on more of a prominence. “The United States, especially,” he said, fiddling for the proper words. “The guys are as important as girls. The sex is not about love and the beauty of the women but it’s intense. Now there’s more of a focus on what you can take during a scene- what are your dos and don’ts.” Capo asked him if he thought the caliber of the women in porn has changed. Capo’s favorite era is the Seventies. “You knew you were watching real women fuck,” he said. “These were WOMEN who were built to fuck- high speed, low drag.” Capo said he married his wife because of her resemblance to Seka. “Well, not entirely,” he mused. “But it certainly helped. Her resemblance to Seka was a big draw for me.”

It was also Capo’s opinion that technology of the Eighties “brought everything down for awhile.” Capo observed that you saw a lot of women coming in off the gutters and getting into the business. Banana was quick to point out that there are a lot of prima donnas occupying niches in the business. “You have huge headaches trying to deal with them in delicate ways so you don’t lose a shoot.”
