Kiefer in Impromptu Strip Routine

WELLINGTON, New Zealand – Actor Kiefer Sutherland stunned a group of small-town New Zealand women by peeling off his socks and shirt during an impromptu strip routine at a club, local media reported.

Sutherland slipped out of his socks and whipped off his shirt, waving it above his head to the tune of the Tom Jones hit You Can Leave Your Hat On, the New Zealand Herald newspaper said. The stripping star was then ushered off the stage, it said. The incident occurred last Thursday in the North Island community of Raetihi, 300 kilometres north of the capital, Wellington, but was not reported until Wednesday.

Sutherland, star of the hit U.S. television drama 24, is filming the movie River Queen nearby. The movie tells the story of an Irish immigrant in New Zealand during the 18th-century wars between indigenous Maori and colonial settlers.

Members attending a women-only night at Raetihi’s Cosmopolitan Club were treated to the impromptu romp by Sutherland, the newspaper said.

They were watching Men of Steel – a male revue act – and Sutherland was drinking at an adjoining bar before deciding to join the act, it said.

“Kiefer had a hell of a night,” club president Danny Mills told The Associated Press on Thursday.

“He had an enjoyable evening and so did everyone that was here,” he said, declining to elaborate.

“He’s coming back in August, mate, and as far as we’re concerned we want him back in here,” Mills said.

Sutherland has appeared in numerous films, including this year’s Taking Lives, as well as Young Guns in 1988, Flatliners in 1990 and Stand by Me in 1986.
