GRAND RAPIDS — fromwww.mlive.com – Mark London’s [pictured] effort to bring gender equality to the world of adult entertainment with the opening of Stud’s Nightclub has revealed the differences between the sexes.
Male male exotic dancers have it tougher than their female counterparts, said London whose new nightclub, at 234 Market Ave. SW, flips the traditional erotic dancer scenario, putting swimsuit-wearing men on the stage and women in the audience.
They just can’t walk up on stage and impress. These guys have to put on a show with music, dance routines and costumes to achieve the same reaction that women performers typically receive from their appreciative audiences.
“Men are more showmen is the way I like to put it,” said London, noting the club’s first crop of 20-something entertainers have taken stage names like Scorpion, Mustang and Steel to add to their mystique.
The size of the crowd affects what they do and how they do it, which isn’t the case for female exotic dancers who don’t mind if they are entertaining one customer or a crowd, London said.

Most of the performers in Stud’s Nightclub are bodybuilders who enjoy showing off their sculpted physiques. After they perform on stage, they come out into the audience and do dances for individual patrons for tips.
But it’s a good thing the male performers and topless male waiters have day jobs, because women just aren’t as generous with their tips as men are, observed London.
“Women like spending money on themselves and their kids,” said London.
“Only men are dumb enough to spend money on strange women.”
London says he has set his prices accordingly. The entrance fee for Stud’s Nightclub is $6 a person. The club is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Stud’s Nightclub, which opened Thursday night, is located in London’s complex that includes Lady Godiva’s Nightclub geared to a male audience and Erica’s Erotic Accessories, an adult retail store.
In a nod to his expanded consumer base, London says he is renaming his “Showgirl Galleria” adult entertainment complex as the “Adult Market” to reflect the shift to a unisex audience.
