from www2.scnow.com – The Chesterfield County teacher accused of sex crimes involving a former student will face additional charges in Horry County Thursday.

Carole Ann Hope, 36, of Hartsville was charged Tuesday in Darlington County with one count each of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and committing a lewd act on a minor.

According to arrest warrants, the incident took place between March 1 and Oct. 31 at Hope’s residence. Both warrants allege the suspect had sex with a 14-year-old boy she’d met while teaching at the school in Jefferson.

Hope was not in class Wednesday at New Heights Middle where she teaches seventh-grade math and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, Chesterfield County School District spokesman Ken Buck said.

Buck would not say how long Hope has been a teacher at the school and issued no further statements on behalf of the district.

Hope appeared before Darlington County Magistrate James E. Thomas on Wednesday afternoon at the Darlington jail for a bond hearing.

Her family members and family members of the alleged victim were present at the hearing and declined to comment on the matter.

Hope did not ask any questions of Thomas, but instead stood silently before him as he read the charges detailed in the warrants and eventually set a $10,000 surety bond for her release. Some members of the alleged victim’s family cried after Thomas set the bond.

After Hope was released on the bond, law enforcement officers in Horry County said she faces additional charges there and is expected to appear for a bond hearing at J. Reuben Long Detention Center as soon as Thursday morning. They did not elaborate, saying the investigation remains ongoing.
