from www.straight.com – The organizer of the Naked Truth’s 2012 People’s Choice Adult Entertainment Awards is seeking nominations for the best sex workers—and their supporters—across the country.
Local dominatrix Mz. Scream told the Georgia Straight by phone that names must be submitted to [email protected] or through the Naked Truth website www.nakedtruth.ca/home.php by December 31.
“We want people to nominate all their favorite exotic dancers, dominatrixes, or escorts,” she said.
Last year’s awards were handed out at the Penthouse Night Club on Seymour Street in Vancouver. In addition to categories for sex workers and burlesque performers, the public also voted for their favorite sex-positive advocate, media spokesperson, academic, and feminist. This year, there are also “people’s favorites” in the categories of adult film and photo, BDSM and fetish, massage, webcam, and phone sex. There’s even a category for the favorite client.
Mz. Scream said the awards are important because people in her industry don’t generally receive much public recognition for their work. “It’s an event that basically is giving a pat on the back to all members of the adult-entertainment industry, whether you’re an actual entertainer or a coworker or a client or a business owner,” she commented.
Each nomination must list the category, contact information for the nominee, and a brief summary of up to 500 words on the person’s contributions to the adult industry. Voting will take place from January 1 to April 15, 2012, and the annual celebration will take place on June 9.
In 2010, Mz. Scream was voted the favorite “pussy squirter”.
“That was my special talent when I did adult films,” she commented.
Mz. Scream co-founded the awards three years ago with her friend Annie Temple, who has recruited exotic dancers to raise money to fight cancer. They both worked on an online resource for sex workers, which offers safety tips for people entering the industry. It won a Naked Truth award last year.
“I really want to get as many adult entertainers, clients, and business owners as possible involved in the nomination process,” Mz. Scream said. “It’s really important for everybody to just feel they are appreciated members of society—and to have some recognition for all their efforts.”
