St.Louis – from www.madisonrecord.com – A man blames an East St. Louis bar for causing his wife’s death, saying it allowed a man to become intoxicated, which led to a fatal collision.

Lucas Williams filed a lawsuit Nov. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Deja Vu Showgirls — Washington Park doing business as Larry Flynt’s Hustler’s Club.

In his complaint, Lucas Williams alleges he rode in a vehicle his wife, Jessica Williams, drove west on Interstate 64 on Nov. 17, 2010. At the same time, Robert W. Casares drove east on Interstate 64 in German Township when he crossed the median and struck the Williams’ vehicle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Lucas Williams suffered injuries while his wife lost her life, the suit states.

Just before the collision, Casares had been drinking at Larry Flynt’s Hustler’s Club, where he became intoxicated, the complaint says.

The lawsuit is the second recent complaint filed over the same incident. On Nov. 9, a New Jersey trucking company sued Casares over damages sustained to one of its vehicles after Casares struck it going the wrong way on the interstate.

Lucas Williams filed his complaint under provisions of the Illinois Dram Shop Act, which allows plaintiffs who have been injured by an intoxicated driver to recover damages from the seller of the alcohol.

In his three-count complaint, Lucas Williams seeks a judgment of more than $150,0000, plus costs.

Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing him.
