from news.smh.com.au – A man charged with murdering a 65-year-old Melbourne prostitute who worked under the name Jazzy-O mouthed the words “love you” to supporters during a court appearance.
Steve Constantinou, 48, of Port Melbourne, is accused of murdering stripper and prostitute Johanna Martin on October 11.
Her body was found on that day bound and wrapped in a blanket in Lorimer Street, Port Melbourne, not far from his Evans Street address.
Her Mercedes sports car was later found nearby with her pet dog inside.
Constantinou appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday where he did not apply for bail and was not required to indicate a plea.
His lawyer asked that his client’s address be suppressed but Magistrate Ian von Einem refused.
Asked by Mr von Einem if he understood what was going on, Constantinou, wearing glasses and a black T-shirt, replied “yes I do”.
As the brief hearing concluded, Constantinou mouthed the words “love you” to a section of the gallery.
He was remanded in custody until March 8 for a further court mention.
Police have previously said that, according to an anonymous caller to Crime Stoppers, Ms Martin was last seen alive driving her Mercedes-Benz convertible with her Jack Russell dog Suzie on Evans Street about 12.40pm on October 11.
Her body was discovered at 2.15pm, leaving a 95-minute period in which she was killed and her clothed body driven to Lorimer Street, where it was dumped.
Police have not revealed how she died but they have said investigators believe Ms Martin was killed by a client, possibly during sex play gone wrong.
