from www.kotaradio.com – The sale of two Sturgis bars and their accompanying adult oriented licenses may open the door for a naughty retail store to set up shop on Main Street.
David Eliason, the owner of Dick and Jane’s Naughty Spot, was arrested last summer, when he was accused of violating state statue prohibiting adult- businesses from opening within a quarter mile of schools, playgrounds or churches. Eliason then moved his business to Lazelle Street, a safe distance from those places. But he’s not wanted there either.
Since two main street bars are up for sale, The Oasis and Gunner’s, along with their adult oriented business license, Eliason says he’s considering a move.
The possibility of Dick and Jane’s moving to Main Street isn’t sitting well its prospective neighbors. Volunteers at the senior center thrift store, next to Gunner’s Lounge, say the business could drive their conservative customers elsewhere. Pattie Reynolds, who works at the Senior Thrift Store, thinks it wouldn’t be good business there….
Gunner’s and the Oasis bars go up for auction Thursday.
Eliason still faces five misdemeanor charges for violating a state statue.
The trial is scheduled for January.
