from www.chicagotribune.com – Playboy is shuttering its Chicago headquarters in favor of a more sunny locale, company officials confirmed.
The company released a statement Friday saying the move to Los Angeles will take place on April 30. It had previously been reported that founder Hugh Hefner was moving the company’s editorial and art departments to L.A
“Playboy’s executives have made the difficult decision to close the company’s Chicago office and move its headquarters to Los Angeles,” the statement said. “The company’s roots began in Chicago, and the city will always be connected to the brand’s beginning.”
The company, which has been in the Windy City since it’s creation in 1953, had told its publishing team they would be moving to L.A. by May, but now it looks like nearly all employees will be asked to relocate.
Chicago is also founder Hugh Hefner’s hometown before he moved to L.A. in 1975.
Hefner bought back control of Playboy Enterprises for $207 million last March.
