www.lancasteronline.com – A former local high school teacher accused of having sex with a pair of students is now charged with taking photos of the assaults.
Lancaster city police allege Christy L. Smith took several photos of sexual encounters with one of the victims, a 17-year-old boy. According to police, the boy was a local high school student.
Smith, 33, kept the photos on her home computer and cellphone, according to charging documents filed Monday morning.
Smith, a former English teacher at McCaskey High School, already is charged with more than a dozen sex crimes relating to her conduct with the boys. She is awaiting trial at Lancaster County Prison on $300,000 bail.
She now faces eight new felony charges of having child pornography.
Bail could be raised when she is arraigned this week by District Judge Bruce Roth on those charges.
City police Detective Aaron Harnish opened the pornography investigation after an interview with the 17-year-old boy, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
According to the affidavit, the boy told Harnish that Smith took photos with her cellphone camera while the two engaged in sexual intercourse.
During a search at Smith’s apartment on College Avenue in October 2010, eight photos were discovered on her computer and cellphone, the affidavit says. They depicted the victim in the nude or engaged in sex acts. The boy told police that he is in the photos.
In the original charges, police alleged that Smith had sexual encounters with a 15-year-old McCaskey student and a 17-year-old student from another school.
Both students testified at a prior hearing that they talked and hung out with the teacher before their relationships turned sexual between 2008 and 2009.
According to the affidavit, the 17-year-old told police he had sex with Smith at least 10 times at her apartment in the 700 block of College Avenue.
Smith, a teacher at McCaskey for seven years, was fired in December 2010. In addition, her state teaching credentials have been revoked.
