HOPKINS COUNTY, KY – from www.surfky.com —In early March 2011, the Kentucky State Police conducted a raid on Dusty’s Adult World in Morton’s Gap, KY after they received a tip that the business was selling synthetic cannabis.
Today, February 2nd, 2012, in Hopkins County District Court, the owner of the business, Jo Ann Warner, pled guilty to one (1) count of Distribution of Obscene Matter and seven (7) counts of Sale of Simulated Substances.
As a result, Warner was sentenced to 360 days in jail with 360 days suspended.
According to Hopkins County Attorney Todd P’Pool [pictured], these so-called “simulated substances” were later identified as synthetic forms of a harmful drug called salvia and were being sold under the misleading moniker, “Purple Sticky.”
Synthetic drugs are becoming commonplace on the shelves of local businesses. However, P’Pool and the Hopkins County Attorney’s Office says they are committed to holding these business owners accountable.
As P’Pool adds in an attempt to warn business owners, “We will prosecute the sale of synthetic drugs. Shop owners should be on notice that we’re monitoring this activity, regardless of phony labels on the product.”
