There are poet-laureates. There are poet-warriors. There are poet-cocksuckers. And there are poet-extortionists. Apparently Golan Cipel, New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey’s gay lover, fell into the latter category. From what’s being reported, McGreevey apparently came out of the closet when Golan Cipel, a published poet, began asking for money and threatened to go public with the affair.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that a senior McGreevey political adviser, said Cipel, 33, threatened McGreevey several weeks ago that unless he was paid “millions of dollars,” Cipel would file a lawsuit against the governor charging him with sexual harassment.
A federal law enforcement source said McGreevey’s office had called the FBI on Thursday and complained that Cipel had requested $5 million to quash the suit.
Cipel could not be reached for comment.
