from www.ktla.com – Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Hemet High School teacher Thursday, claiming she had sex with a male student on the school’s campus.

High school administrators contacted the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday, reporting an act of unlawful sexual intercourse between the student and teacher Janel Ramirez, 31, according to a sheriff’s news release.

An investigation revealed that the sex occurred at the school in December, according to the news release.

Deputies arrested Ramirez about 9 a.m. Thursday at the campus. She was booked at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, oral copulation of a minor and continued sexual abuse of a minor, according to booking records.

Ramirez posted $100,00 bail Thursday night and is now free on bail.

Neither district nor sheriff’s officials would disclose the age of the student.

The Press-Enterprise reported that Ramirez teaches 9th-grade English and has taught at Hemet High School since 2007. She is a graduate of Hemet High and works in a orientation program for incoming freshmen.

Hemet Unified School District officials have not said if Ramirez has been placed on leave but the teacher was not at school Thursday, according to the Press-Enterprise.
