from www.lvrj.com- A decade ago, Kim Halsey was a strung-out porn superstar and mom chased by fans who had seen her sex tape, which was billed as featuring 620 men in one day, a world record. Her porn name was Houston.

But Halsey, 43, couldn’t take it anymore – not the films, the fans, the stripping 32 weeks a year – and especially the drugs.

“I was doing crystal meth, like, majorly. I was a functioning addict,” she says. “I knew I was gonna die. I would have died if I had stayed in L.A.”

Secretly (as I learned a few months ago), Halsey moved to Lake Las Vegas in 2003 and she has been sort of hiding in Vegas ever since.

During her first days here, she had meth delivered to her home. But she felt as if she were having heart attacks.

“I was hyperventilating. I was definitely going to die,” Halsey says.

“I just broke down one night, and just got on my hands and knees, and said, ‘Help me get off this, please. I want a different life. I want to raise my kid.’

“And I did. I dumped it all down the sink and bought some golf clubs.

“I literally golfed for a year straight,” and she started running daily, she says.

She details her Vegas residency, and nine-year drug sobriety, as we share a couch during a photo shoot break for her self-published autobiography out now, “Houston: Pretty Enough,” written with author Charles Lupula.

“I wanted to tell my side of the story,” she says. “I wasn’t a beaten child, and I wasn’t raped, and I wasn’t molested and all those stereotypical things people think.”

The title, “Pretty Enough,” fits her struggles with self-image.

“I don’t think I was ever pretty enough.”

Why not?

“I don’t know. I was modeling when I was 15 years old. I was doing beauty pageants. But it’s just something inside. I just didn’t like myself too much, and I thought the plastic surgery would help me inside. But it doesn’t.”

She has had “a lot of surgeries,” “the good and the bad.”

In Vegas, she is surrounded by good friends and family. But Halsey’s daughter, while in high school, had to deal with guys who watched her mom’s videos and thought she was cool, and with guys who thought her mom was a slutty whore, Halsey says.

“Now, she’s in college, and it’s a little different. But growing up for her was difficult,” Halsey says.

“My father thinks it’s a little brutal. He feels bad for me, like I took it really bad. But I didn’t. And if he watched it – I’m really good at it,” she says with a laugh.

Halsey still cashes checks from her personal website. In Vegas fashion, she picked up a real estate license. This December, she earned a medical assisting degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

“I’m a phlebotomist. I can draw your blood.”

She has been thinking of moving to England.

“Summers are brutal here.”

She doesn’t eschew her past.

“I liked being Houston.”

Her porn achievements served their purposes, to make her even more famous and richer. Her Howard Stern appearances were legendary.

“I landed in Poland, and literally it was like I was The Beatles getting off that plane. It was sick.”

But that’s all behind her. Ahead of her now is more good health, she vows.

“I was numb for about 10 years. And now being sober, I can just feel everything, and it’s just me,” she says.

“I’m not running from my fans anymore because it’s a different game. … I’m not running anymore from anything.”
