from www.scotsman.com – THEATRE bosses have dropped telly and stage pin-up Craig Chalmers from a lucrative pantomime run after he was exposed as a porn movie actor.

The former Any Dream Will Do star, who comes from the Capital, had been due to play the part of Prince Charming in the festive production of Cinderella at the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline.

However, after information about his shocking new porn career was sent to theatre bosses by a whistleblower the 30-year-old was immediately dropped – sending the production into a tail-spin.

The Alhambra Theatre Trust confirmed their decision to drop the singer in a short statement released yesterday, in which it said: “In light of information given by an anonymous member of the public, of which we were completely unaware, we can confirm that Craig Chalmers is no longer taking part in our pantomime Cinderella.”

Chalmers is understood to have filmed a number of porn movies under the stage name Ryan Ryder. They feature him having sex with women and performing a number of lewd acts.

The married entertainer last night remained defiant over of his secret choice of
triple X-rated career.

He blamed an unexpected “crossover” between the launch of his porn career and his starring in kids panto this Christmas.

He said: “I’m not ashamed of it. I’m being well paid and I’m comfortable with doing it. I can confirm though that I won’t be performing in panto this year in Dunfermline which is a shame as I was looking forward to it.

“The plan was to wrap my panto career up after this Christmas and concentrate on my new career. However there has been an unintended crossover and I’m well aware
that there is a clear conflict of interest.

“It’s a bit of bad timing and it’s unfortunate but it was completely unintended.

“I understand that a lot of people are going to judge me badly for it but at the end of the day both my friends and family are fully aware of my career and they support my decision.”

He has been replaced by co-star James Mackenzie, from the children’s TV channel CBBC, who was originally playing Dandini.

An industry insider said Chalmers, from East Craigs, had committed career “suicide” by opting to pursue a future in pornography. “For someone who has already built up a following and who has a made a fairly good career for himself as an entertainer on TV and in
theatres, this move is effectively suicide for his mainstream career,” the source said.

“It is very difficult if not impossible for someone to move back into the mainstream once they have established themselves in the adult entertainment industry.

“It’s a real shame as he had talent and it’s hard to see where he will go from here.”

It is understood producers and promoters of the show were meeting last night to discuss the situation, with one of the biggest problems being promotional material such as posters and programmes
feature Chalmers’ names and picture.

A source at the theatre said those working on the show were “furious” about the revelation, but praised those behind the scenes for taking a swift decision over the problem.

The insider said: “There was no other option but to drop him. You can’t have children coming to see a production like ours where it’s widely known that he’s actually also appeared in adult movies. That’s just bonkers and clearly wouldn’t work.”

The News can also reveal Chalmers is currently being touted online as an emerging adult entertainment industry talent by management company Jem Talent – which focus on the UK & European markets.

Their website – which features sexually explicit photos of the “talent” they have on their books – says: “We are a Talent Management Company focusing on the UK & European Market specialising within the Adult Entertainment Industry. Our Talent is carefully selected to allow focus on providing a premium service to our
clients.”

The dropped entertainer is the only male currently on their books.

His cheesy biography says: “Ryan Ryder is the new man on the block to the industry and with the combination of his large equipment, good looks, and assured performance in front of camera, he is already in demand.

Ryan’s friendly and laid-back nature along with his dependability and work ethic means he is a fantastic asset and our very first exclusive male performer. Ryan is available for both recorded shoots and live shows.”

On the same website adult performer Paige Turnah also recounts her co-star Ryder’s first-ever film shoot in her online blog.

In a post dated July 26 she said: “This was Ryan’s first porn shoot and bless him, he did so well! He called me later that day to thank me for taking his virginity LOL!

“The scene will be on my
site within the next few weeks.”

Earlier this month Chalmers added a video to his own, non porn-related, official website where he talked about how much he was looking forward to working at the Alhambra, and giving his fans a
sneak peek at some of the costumes used in the show.

Today that material, as well as much of his website content including a section outlining his role in the show, had been removed.

He had also returned home to Birmingham, having just recently moved back to Edinburgh for the winter to coincide with the panto season.

Bill Fletcher, owner of the Alhambra Theatre and producer of the panto, said he had acted immediately to remove Craig from the production once information about his past came to light.

“I am extremely disappointed that Craig did not see fit to make us aware of his change of career path, as
obviously it is in no way compatible with our work to create true family friendly panto here at the Alhambra,” he said.

“We had hoped to put together a nucleus of panto performers for years to come and Craig was a good fit for that with his following from Joseph, and he had experience in panto roles.

“When the news emerged about this however we told him quite categorically that his position here was untenable and his only option was to resign his role as Prince Charming.

“We will now look to move forward – the cast are all aware of what has happened and I’m sure they will be able to move on and get ready for a
panto season that will hopefully be even better than last
year’s.”

Chalmers, who came fifth in the BBC’s Any Dream Will Do in 2007, married his wife,
Jennifer Smith, in a ceremony at Norton House Hotel in Edinburgh in September 2010. The couple now live in
Birmingham.

He spent three years
following the BBC show
touring the UK playing the title
role in Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat where he performed in more than 1400 live shows.

PORNOGRAPHY in the United Kingdom remains a £1 billion industry, capitalising on a worldwide audience and the fact that 25 per cent of online searches are for adult material.

Market research from internet providers has found the average age a boy first sees porn today is 11 and a survey published by Psychologies magazine in the UK last month found a third of 14 to 16-year-olds had first seen sexual images online when they were ten or younger. Within the industry, those involved come from a variety of backgrounds, but surveys have consistency found that around one in ten female university students have been involved in some aspect of the sex industry.

In 2003 a porn film called “The Scottish Loveknot” was made in the Highlands. With a production budget of £200,000 it was then the most expensive porn film ever made in the UK.

He might be Craig Chalmers to his fans, friends and family – but in the world of adult entertainment he goes by the name of Ryan Ryder.

The former Joseph star has signed up with UK adult entertai- nment talent manage- ment company JEM Talent, and is high-lighted as being their “very first exclusive male performer.”

His online biography says he is 29 – despite the fact that Craig is 30 – and describes him as “the new man on the block to the industry.”

It goes on to state that with his “good looks and assured performance in front of camera, he is in demand.”

The company also say he is friendly, laid back and dependable, and a “fantastic asset”.

Craig Chalmers had his first taste of fame in 2003, when he faced feared talent judge Simon Cowell on the ITV show Pop Idol.

He later admitted he had been a bag of nerves at his first audition, but it was an experience that stood him in good stead when he appeared on the hit talent contest Any Dream Will Do in 2007, in which West End hopefuls competed for the chance to play the lead role in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

The then 25-year-old, from East Craigs in West Edinburgh, came fifth after being voted out in the eighth week of the ten-week reality TV competition.

Despite Chalmers’ exit he was invited to join the cast of another Joseph production by theatre impresario Bill Kenwright and toured the UK for three years, performing in 1500 shows. He also recorded a hit album, Dream On, with other Any Dream stars which became an instant success in the charts in 2007 and in February 2008, the group performed to a sell-out audience at the London Palladium.

Since leaving the Joseph production in 2010 Chalmers has hosted events, made personal appearances and starred in two pantomimes – in Carlisle in 2010/11 as Will Barrow and as Aladdin in Dunfermline 2011/2012.

He married girlfriend Jennifer Smith in Edinburgh, after proposing on a Mexican beach in August 2009. Chalmers once performed with all-male dance troupe G-Force before having a top-ten hit with boyband No Reason.
