Let’s talk about assholes, shall we? Mark Kernes in 1992 was made managing editor of AVN [by yours truly]. Kernes lasted in that position all of two weeks because his organization skills stink, he couldn’t keep deadlines and often fell asleep at his desk. I’d walk in his office to find Kernes snoring. I was given the option of either firing Kernes or keeping him on to continue with the legal reporting.

I felt sorry for Kernes, more so because I didn’t feel like doing legal again, having already burned out on it from writing a bi-weekly newsletter AVN published several years earlier.

Today Kernes remains an ingrate never realizing, I suppose, I could have sent him packing back to Philadelphia. Oh, maybe he’s still grating when he made some racially insensitive remarks years ago, and I began calling him Ku Klux Kernes.
