Don’t get me started on Zero Dark Thirty. This morning film critics are all sobbing about Kathryn Bigelow’s omission from The Best Director category in the Oscars.

Instead, they should be screaming about Ben Affleck and why he didn’t get recognized for directing Argo.

Affleck and Bigelow both tackled contemporary political subjects in which we already know the outcome, but Affleck’s film manages to be a genuine nail biter. Whereas Bigelow’s film with its Cliff Notes storytelling has you looking at your nails out of tedium.

Worse yet, is the fact that Zero Dark Thirty gets nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

I wanted to see this film to get some perspective on the Osama Bin Laden manhunt. Instead, I walked away knowing that the CIA was looking for a white SUV and the fact that they had mistaken one brother for another. Which is pretty much all you’ll get out of what was supposed to be a docu-style capture of one of the most vital news stories of the 21st century. [Outside of Fabian Thylmann, of course.]

But at least you’ll be conversant on water boarding techniques.

The LA times is similarly crying the blues that Sen. John McCain was probably responsible for Zero Dark Thirty getting the shaft because of the torture sequences. Good luck with that. McCain couldn’t get elected president much less wield power over Hollywood.

Zero Dark Thirty is a torture sequence in of itself and, in common parlance, a complete rip off.

You expect much more and get way less.
