Gene sez: George Plimpton, described as the self-deprecating author of “Paper Lion” and a patron to Philip Roth, Jack Kerouac and countless other writers, has died. He was 76. I believe Plimpton was still working on that piece about the AVN awards show which he started five or six years ago which never saw the light of day. At least to my knowledge. And I should know because I was Plimpton’s chief source of information when he came out to Las Vegas to cover the show. I spoke to Plimpton several times in the following months, supplying filler, wondering when his story was going to make it to print. I think Plimpton was still working on it when he keeled over in his Manhattan apartment last night.
