A kingpin in Nashville’s adult industry now faces a 10-count indictment. The charges against Al Woods are just one result of a wide-sweeping raid last year by Metro police.
Al Woods turned himself in to police Wednesday, along with his wife April. Both are accused of four counts of promoting prostitution and six counts of money laundering at their former South Nashville business.
In March of last year, the First Amendment Bookstore was padlocked, along with a host of massage parlors, in a police sting of adult businesses. The grand jury handed down its indictment against the Woods’ just last week.
Police say three former employees of the First Amendment Bookstore have pleaded guilty to prostitution charges. They are looking for a fourth, known to them only as Nikki, but say that she’s only wanted as a witness. Of the 35 businesses padlocked in the sting last year, police say all of them remain closed today.
