Florida- A local television station decided not to renew the contract of a news anchor, who was accused of trying to persuade an undercover detective to expose himself.
Darryl Tardy was still negotiating with WJXX/WTLV-TV in Jacksonville over severance pay, his attorney, Earl Johnson Jr., said Tuesday. Johnson and Tardy declined further comment.
Tardy, 33, was arrested Oct. 14 on charges of offering for or engaging in prostitution/lewd behavior, but they were dropped two weeks later because prosecutors didn’t believe they could get a conviction at trial. He has not been on the air since his arrest.
Two days after the arrest, the Florida Times-Union reported Tardy had been arrested in Rochester, N.Y., in June 2000 on a charge of public lewdness. An officer said he saw Tardy and another man involved in a sex act. Tardy earlier told the paper that charge had been dismissed.
Tardy anchored Good Morning Jacksonville on Saturdays and was an investigative reporter for First Coast News, as the stations are known.
First Coast News General Manager Ken Tonning declined to comment.
