“Did you hit one of these crash and burn things before you said to yourself I’ve got to do something?”

Blade said that was a fact. “I was being an asshole- it was time to stop. I was out of control.” For Blade it was mainly alcohol. Asked what her booze of choice was, Blade says Johnny Walker Red and Pepsi. “Scotch connoisseurs hate me for that,” she says. “It’s an odd mix but it works.” I was curious who might have introduced Blade to such a concoction.

“He was a photographer,” said Blade. “It was Keith Again. And way back when he used to run HIP Video and Fresh Video. He introduced me to that. We were going out to watch the horses run one day. We sat down with a bottle of each.”

I asked Blade to amplify her asshole comments and how she was being one. “Out of control,” she explains. “I was letting business slide in my personal life. It was definitely enough. I needed to straighten myself out. I run a bachelor party company and I was letting that slide. I always had money coming in but I was squandering it on senseless stuff. Now that I’ve stopped partying I’ve been traveling, going to school; my bachelor party company is up and running. That’s Scandals Bachelor Party Entertainment. Blade said there was a five year point in her career when she didn’t do scenes. “I used the name Tanya Storm,” she says. “When I came back into the business I changed it to Katanya Blade. I was dancing during that time and very serious with somebody in a relationship. It wasn’t working any more. We’re still friends. It’s not a big hate thing. I think I maybe just fell out of love.”

Blade said that’s not to be confused with the relationship that she ended recently. “That was a little boy toy- he was starting to irritate me. I think he was trying to move into my house. No leachy boys in my life, please. I like men who bring in some money and have their own car.”

Blade was a tomboy growing up. She raced motocross. “Which was great. My dad’s a photo journalist so we always had six brand new motorcycles in the back yard. I’m really into sports, jogging, BMX, skiing, gymnastics- anything sports oriented I just absolutely love. I kind of got into the party thing then straightened myself out for awhile.”

According to Blade, the first time she got laid was in the family’s pool house. “It was in the back house in the pool room. It was by one of my stepbrother’s best friends. I was 14 and I did it doggie,” she laughs. “We just started by making out and playing around. He went down on me which was really nice. Although I’ve found better, since, he kind of turned me over doggie style and next thing I knew he slipped it in. I was kind of clueless. I didn’t know what I was doing.”

Blade, who looks like she’s been doing it all her life, said she didn’t do anal until she was about 22 or 23. “When I started doing movies. The first anal I did was on screen with Mr. Ron Hightower. You have to be very organized and it’s hard to be organized if you’re drunk.” Blade said she’d have girls who’d be late and that she needed to be by the phones to straighten things out.

“Just to make sure that things run smoothly and you can’t do that if you’re high,” she says. “It just doesn’t work. I was still making money but not the kind of money that can be made. But now things are absolutely wonderful. I took my kid to Hawaii this year; I went to London and Paris with Rubee Tuesday.”

“I heard some of the stories- like you went to visit Jim Morrison’s grave.”

“We did,” said Blade. “And I had a fantastic time with her. She runs the AIM Healthcare meeting with me and we’re going to be at AEE this year running the AIM booth. She’s one of my absolute, best friends in the world. I love her to pieces. She is just absolutely awesome.”

“I ran into her at one of Pamela Peaks’ cooking shows.”

“I did one of those,” says Blade. “I got a lot of feedback from that. It was great. Lucky Chatsworth was there and some huge buff guy from Austria? But he was a cutie.”

In her personal life, Blade prefers a guy who kisses. “That takes his time- I love cuddling, fondling, all the foreplay. The sex can be almost secondary.”

“So you’re a romantic?”

“Yes,” replies Blade. “But I like it dirty, too. I like playing and taking my time with it. That’s what it’s all about- taking your time and having fun. Sex is supposed to be erotic and is supposed to feel good. It’s not supposed to be rushed.”

Blade started out in the business as asecretary over at Intropics Video for Dick Miller. “Then I moved over to Legend and was selling product there. Then I moved over to Excitement Video with Ruby Gottesman. I was selling video for them.” Blade notes that one of the first directors that shot her was Scotty Fox.

“I’m surprised that experience didn’t start you on the road to alcoholism.”

“I partied with Scotty many a night,” Blade states. [Blade and I both exchange Scotty drinking stories, and, coincidentally, they all took place at the Tropicana in Vegas.]

“Scotty could knock ’em back,” Blade continues. I remember kicking it back with Scotty at the Tropicana. He was playing blackjack and we were just drinking. He must have blown $20,000 at the table one night. Easily. Me and Scotty were buddies. He’s a total doll. I haven’t heard from him in ages.”

“So what happened, one day you’re selling a video and someone asked if you’d like to take it up the ass?”

“I was getting a lot of offers and I was married at the time,” Blade replies. “My husband just did not like the whole industry at all. He was very anti-industry. And as a sales person I had to go to conventions. I got invited to different functions from Scotty Fox and people like that. My husband was just so sure that I was fucking around. I really wasn’t doing it and he got to the point where he started fucking around to get even with me. I wasn’t doing anything. So I dropped him, did my first movie and sent him the tape.”

Blade remembers her first scene was with a guy named Grant. “He only did a couple of movies with me. Actually he had a really tiny penis and my girlfriends nicknamed him Little Trout. His dick didn’t work very well on screen. And I was having a lot of fun and he wanted me to only work with him or girl-girl. I just decided to take it a step further. I was having a good time so I got rid of him and started doing movies with other guys.”

Blade said she continued working for Gottesman a little while longer then decided to quit to do scenes.

“I’ve worked with T.T. Boy and Peter North and everybody, really. I’ve been around for 15 years- maybe? I think.”
