The inductees this year will include Johnny Keyes, Angel Kelly, Mai Lynn, Shayla LaVeaux, Henri Pachard and Lynn Lemay. Keyes will be inducted by Rhonda Jo Petty and Mai Linn will be inducted by Nina Hartley. And Margold speculates whether that will be because of his issues with Hartley’s husband Ira Levine. For those same reasons, Margold said Hartley turned down the FOXE roast. “Quite frankly I did the better thing by asking Marilyn Chambers to come in and be roasted. She’s excited about it.”
Meanwhile, Lemay is going to be inducted by her daughter and Angel Kelly will be inducted by Porsche Lynn. “That’s fantastic,” says Margold who notes that LaVeaux will be inducted by her husband with Pachard enjoying a collective induction. “But I’m having Pistol do it.” www.xxxdeepthroat.com. Margold says he had to coax Pistol, only because he’s a bit spotlight wary, to do it.
“That’s a good half dozen people to be honored,” says Margold. With Jim Holliday’s recent passing, Margold says something was sent to Dirty Bob where there were three tombstones. “I haven’t seen it,” says Margold. “But Holliday was on one side. Russ Meyer was on the other and I’m in the middle. It’s an honor. What great company for me to be in the middle of that kind of creative oreo.
When Meyer died, Margold says he really didn’t have a public comment to make. “Russ and I had a battle worn relationship from the real world. I never liked his stuff. In fact I told him his movies had all the erotic appeal of The Goodyear Blimp. Which meant that I couldn’t be his friend any more. I’m not kissing that man’s ass.”
“That was the thing about Russ,” I say. “With him you had to be part of the inner circle of trust.”
Margold said that wasn’t his style and remembers being introduced to Meyer in 1973 by Uschi Digart. “She brought him to my office. She said he was a good man. We were friends until I dared to criticize a movie.”
Also with sadness, Margold notes that industry legend Dave Friedman is also succumbing to the ravages of old age. Noting that it’s been about two weeks since Holliday died, Margold says only a couple of times now does he cry. “I cried a lot in the beginning.” Noting the Holliday memorial scheduled for January 20, Margold said the stipulation was that Pabst Blue Ribbon beer be served as the only liquor.
“The woman told me yeeeech, you want that stuff? I said that’s what the man drank.”
