Las Vegas- A couple of things in this world are for sures. Income Tax time comes in April and the first round of the NFL Playoffs are scheduled during AEE.
Oh, and one more thing. Someone came up with the statistic that no team that plays its home games in a domed stadium has ever won a conference championship on an outdoor field. Ya got that? So, according to way things generally go, that means Minnesota, Indianapolis, St. Louis and Atlanta have a bull’s chance in a bull ring to advance to the Conference finals which are scheduled January 23.
That being the case, let’s look at the matchups this weekend which, just by the way feature those four teams. St. Louis plays Seattle at Seattle, Saturday afternoon. And the New York Jets take on San Diego in a game at San Diego. Sunday’s games feature Minnesota at Green Bay and Denver at Indianapolis.
For those of you who have picked the Vikings, bear in mind that, because of the weather, they had lousy practices all week and an even lousier playoff record at 17-23. Another consoling factor is the fact that Minnesota has lost 20 of its last 21 outdoor games. And Green Bay with a 24-13 Playoff record, won its last meeting with the Vikings on December 24 with a field goal as the game ended. But good news for Minnesota is the fact that Green Bay has a cheesehead pass defense, gets very few interceptions and coughs up a lot of touchdowns. And Viking quarterback Daunte Culpepper is coming off his best year yet with 39 touchdown passes and a 110.9 rating, second only to Peyton Manning among QB’s in games this weekend.
Adultfyi consensus: Green Bay
St. Louis at Seattle? St. Louis has lost its last five games on the road. But the last time they won on the road was at Seattle, coming back from 17 points behind. In that game, Rams QB Marc Bulger started off the game with 13 consecutive passes. But you know the Seahawks are going to make use of the talents of Shaun Alexander who ran for1,696 yards this year.
Adultfyi consensus: Seattle
Will the New York Jets at San Diego Chargers proclaim QB Chad Pennington as the new guy on the block who can’t win the big one? Wait, we thought that title belonged exclusively to Donovan McNabb, but Pennington, with his bum throwing arm has made a good run at it this year although McNabb will certainly have his chance when Philly plays next Sunday.
Adultfyi consensus: San Diego
And when it comes to Denver playing Indianapolis at Indianapolis, think of Peyton Manning in last year’s playoff game against the Broncos throwing five touchdown passes.
Adultfyi consensus: Indianapolis
